Nigel Nicholas

Slaughter Arts is a record label in its infancy which is making a name for itself, however, many are still not familiar as to origins of this label Slaughter Arts . The name Nigel Nicholas is often associated with this record label because he is just one of the men behind this new era of music coming out from the Caribbean.

Nigel Nicholas was born and raised in the beautiful isle of St.Lucia. At an early age he was exposed to all the different genres of music that are truly Caribbean from caylpso all the way to dancehall. He has a deep passion for dancehall and rap but because soca is the main genre in St.Lucia, he soon began to experiment, and later found out how grateful this genre of music has been to him.

After completing his Secondary education, Nigel decided to pursue his love for music full time. In 1998 , a great opportunity presented itself ,when a local radio station (Radio 100) hosted a freestyle contest, Nigel grasped the opportunity and called in the show along with his friend ,Kirby St.Clair and won the contest. Coincidentally two producers from Ice Cold productions were at the station during his call in. They recorded their first song "Fabulous Styles” as part of their prize , this track was a Pop/Caribbean Crossover which got immense airplay.

Nigel used this accomplishment as motivation to expand his musical talent, and it was then Phive Staart Fleet comprising of Kirby St Clair, Marvin Joseph, Jonathan Cherry and Kevin Joseph came to life. The Carnival Season came around and focus had switched to soca and they realized that only soca was moving forward. In 1999 Phive Staar Fleet came out with their first soca track "Bordaline" which became a big hit not only in St.Lucia but all over the Caribbean reaching the London Charts and various compilations.

The following year, unfortunately they all went solo. But Nigel passion did not die just there he continued and in 2000 released the hit track "Stamina" and from the day of release it was a huge hit . That year Phive Staar, (because Nigel continued to use this name since it was already known) booked many performances for "de girls all wanted stamina!"

Later, producer Rawle Alcide suggested that he use his name, "NIGEL NICHOLAS" for the upcoming Carnival Season. It was mid carnival season and Nigel had not released any new songs due to the many distractions in his life at that time but then his producer Rawle Alcide dropped a beat and all the lyrics just came out and this is how we all began singing "WHINE LIKE YUH MAD." Next ,it was not long before people made this a hit with its frequent request. That year Nigel was up against big hits like Karate by Ninja Dan, yet managed to be the head liner for a local Radio Staion (The Wave) first Soca Show.

The momentum continued the following year Nigel decided to team up with Kakle, Kutty and Randy to form GOB and this new group made musical magic releasing tracks like "We Love It ", "Blaze It Up" and "Never Scared". However the sweet melodies of this group came to an end when everyone decided to all go solo.

In 2005 , Nigel moved to Rhode Island to further his studies in Audio /Video Engineering . It was in that same year he felt inspired to begin Slaughter Arts/ Lynx Records. His first track under this label was "Yeah" produced by St.Lucian born Leebo. And his vision expanded as artiste like Kakle, Al Ambose , Baby Girl Trish , Private 6 and many more join the Slaughter Arts Family. He sees his major and work as husband and wife each one making the other better in terms of quality.

Nigel works especially with the underdogs of the industry putting unique voices out there with their own personal style. Presently Slaughter Arts released one of the Biggest Soca Riddims of 2007 the "Soca Bluetooth Riddim" which has taken the Caribbean by Storm Storm hitting St.Lucia,Tortola , St.Mateen , St.Vincent, Barbados , Trinidad , Dominica Turks and Caios, Bermuda ,Martinque and going international to France , Holland and London. This Year Nigel teamed up with Soca artist Jalena , who is also part of the Slaughter Arts Family, to release "Carnival Ah Come" which was a huge hit in Bermuda , and which continues to soar. He also released a track "P.I.M.P" ( People In Mass Partying) on the Soca Bluetooth Riddim .

Nigel has alot ahead of him ,his main goal to date is to open his own media facility, which would be covering both audio and video production and as he expresses the word "Arts" in the label (Slaughter Arts) signifies that music is not their limit !

Why This Blog Site

As a young Caribbean woman, I see everyday that our society is not educated on many artists from the different genres of soca, caylpso , dancehall reggae and hip pop which all represent true Caribbean Indentity. Many may indentify with such genres such as soca and caylpso cause of its vibrant and pulsating rhythm .Whereas internationally Caribbean people are often identified by dance hall music and reggae because of the great impact men such as Bob Marley left behind. My aim for this blog site is to educate the masses about the different genres that are taking over the Caribbean and for us to critically analyze their contributions to society on a whole . My personal favorite is that of soca music because I believe that soca music has a rich Caribbean history stemming from times of slavery and its is evident that only now soca music is getting international recognition .This is the genre that is known for creating the most Caribbean pride amongst persons especially around the Carnival season like Labour Day , Caribana and so forth . There are many aspiring artists who often do not get the exposure they need to go the distance in the industry. I intended on educating you about those artists whose little contributions make us all true lovers for the different genres ! So ensure you keep posted cause we are all going on a Musical journey ...
